Project Overview

Blaylock Holdings, LLC — a Thorndike Development and Wincrest Properties partnership — is leading a comprehensive environmental cleanup of the 40-acre Mohawk Tannery site in Nashua, NH. Working under an EPA and NH DES–approved Removal Action, the team will excavate, consolidate, and encapsulate more than 90,000 cubic yards of sludge and contaminated soils, restoring a long-polluted industrial property and advancing one of the most significant remediation efforts in the city’s history.

Located just minutes from downtown Nashua off Exit 6 on Route 3, the site occupies a prominent stretch of the scenic Nashua River, underscoring the importance of this work. The remediation will lay the foundation for transforming the property into a renewed riverfront neighborhood, opening long-closed waterfront to the public and setting the stage for future homes, amenities, and community connection.

Remediation

Build The Contaiment Cell
A new Sludge Containment Cell (SCC) will be constructed on-site surrounding the two lagoons that are nearest to the Nashua River.

A vertical barrier with secant pile wall construction will surround impacted soils and protect the Nashua River.

This engineered structure will serve as the long-term repository for impacted material.
Goal: Create a secure, engineered enclosure to safely isolate contaminated materials.
Excavate and Consolidate Contaminated Materials
Approximately 90,000+ cubic yards of sludge and contaminated soils will be excavated.

Materials will be transported on site to the new containment cell where they will be consolidated with the existing sludge.

An additional Asbestos Containment Cell (ACC) will be constructed to safely house asbestos-impacted materials.
Goal: Create a secure, engineered enclosure to safely isolate contaminated materials.
Cap and Secure the Containment Structures
The sludge containment cell will be sealed with an impermeable cap system.

The cap prevents surface water infiltration, reduces exposure path ways, and ensures long-term stability.

All structures are designed to meet EPA and NHDES engineering and environmental performance standards.
Goal: Permanently isolate contaminants and protect surrounding land and water.
Implement Long-Term Protection & Monitoring
Post-Remediation Site Controls will monitor groundwater, surface water, and cap performance.

Regular inspections and maintenance will safeguard the system well into the future.

These measures ensure the integrity of the restored land and protection of the Nashua River.
Goal: Preserve site integrity and ensure ongoing public and environmental safety.
