Nashua, NH – Significant progress has been made at the Mohawk Tannery remediation site over the past two quarters (December 2025 – April 2026), as the project transitions from initial groundbreaking to full active construction. The site has undergone a visible transformation from wooded, overgrown conditions to an active construction site with multiple crews and heavy equipment operating across the property.
Work Completed (Q4 2025 & Q1 2026)
The project team has accomplished several key milestones during this period:
Site Preparation & Clearing
Initial site preparation has been completed, including clearing vegetation and debris, removing invasive species within work zones, creating access roads, and developing the necessary work areas. Asbestos debris has been relocated and consolidated as part of this effort.

Sludge Area 3 Excavation
Excavation and relocation of Sludge Area 3 to the containment area has been completed—a significant environmental milestone in the overall remediation plan.
Safety Systems & Traffic Management
All required safety systems are installed and fully operational. This includes air monitoring stations positioned around the site perimeter and comprehensive erosion control measures. All construction vehicles now enter and exit exclusively via Veterans Memorial Parkway, keeping heavy construction traffic off neighborhood streets.
Containment System Preparation
Early preparation work for the underground containment system has begun, laying the groundwork for the major construction phase ahead.

Upcoming Work – Q2 2026
The following activities are planned for the next quarter:
Crews will continue the relocation and consolidation of asbestos debris. Demolition and removal of the former tannery building foundation is planned for mid-to-late May—this work will involve heavy equipment and will be louder than typical site activity for a period of time. Ongoing site maintenance, debris removal, and grading refinement will continue across various work areas.
Construction of the underground containment system will advance, along with material handling and preparation for the next phase of remediation. Installation of the underground secant pile wall will also begin during this period.

Anticipated Impacts
Neighbors and community members should expect increased construction visibility and traffic across the site. Temporary elevated noise levels are anticipated during foundation demolition work in May.
Ongoing Mitigation Measures
The project team continues to maintain continuous perimeter air monitoring to ensure safe air quality levels for surrounding neighborhoods. Erosion and stormwater controls are maintained across the full site, and all construction traffic remains routed exclusively via Veterans Memorial Parkway. All work is conducted exclusively within permitted hours for each zone.
Engineering, Design & Permitting Update
Pedestrian Bridge
The City of Nashua has long contemplated the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting the neighborhoods of Little Florida and Fairmount Heights to Mine Falls Park. Blaylock and the City of Nashua have agreed to partner to make these recreational plans—first conceived in the 1970s—finally come to fruition. Preliminary design analysis has begun with engineering firms to initiate the permitting and eventual construction of the bridge.
